ENT Consultations

ENT consultations involve the assessment of different aspects of ear, nose and throat care. This includes treatment of hearing, ear infections, balance disorders, ear noise, nerve pain, and facial and cranial nerve disorders.

Hearing Test which evaluates the sensitivity of a person’s sense of hearing and is most often performed using an audiometer.

Flexible Rhinolarnyngoscopy is a procedure which involves a small flexible fiberoptic camera/scope placed in your nose to the back of your throat. It is used to identify, potential lesions or diseases in the upper air way, which can be related to the nose, sinuses and the throat.

Ear cleaning – Severe earwax buildup or an ear infection can cause a number of complications:

Ringing in the ears, a condition medically known as tinnitus
Ear fullness associated with pain
Ear discharge, foul smell, or itching in the ears
Partial hearing loss which only worsens with time

The common treatment is ear suction and syringing to remove excess wax buildup and clear the infection.

Minor Surgical Procedures

Keloid removal – Keloids are scars which rise above the rest of the skin, usually a response to trauma, such as a cut to the skin. Keloids are benign and can vary in colour. The removal is a surgical procedure that is used to improve or reduce the appearance of the scar. After excision, patients should have either a course of steroid injections or radiation to prevent recurrence.

Wart and skin tag removal – Skin tags are soft, balloon-like growths of skin that are caused by some sort of friction either from the skin rubbing against skin, or against clothing, jewelry, or other materials. They are often small outgrowths that are made up of bunches of collagen and blood vessels trapped inside thicker bits of skin.

Warts are skin growths that are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). There are more than 60 kinds of HPV, some of which tend to cause warts on the skin. HPV stimulates the quick growth of cells on the skin’s outer layer.

Incision and drainage is a minor surgical procedure that helps to release pus or pressure built up under the skin, such as from an abscess.

Wound suturing is a procedure that involves the closing of a wound, artery, or part of an organ. This is usually done to stop bleeding and inhibit infections from making further damage.

Trigger finger release – Trigger finger is caused by the irritation and inflammation of the tendon sheath in the fingers which leads to a narrowing of the space between the sheath. This may result from:

repetitive gripping and grasping action
keeping fingers bent for a long period of time
certain medical conditions

Doctor Yearwood Medical performs a virtually quick and painless, small incision to widen the tendon sheath. Alternatively, a needle is used to open the tendon sheath to provide passage of the tendon.
